12 under the radar things to organize in Paris.

There is something ephemeral about walking the streets of Paris, knowing that at some point in the past Hemingway, Joyce and Scott Fitzgerald too tripped along the same cobbles. Although nothing quite takes the magic of the moment away than having to queue in long lines to catch a tiny glimpse of Mona Lisa or dodging the snaking crowds of Montmarte. This is why we recommend going off the beaten track to experience the chic, bohemian and panache that Paris has to offer, here are 12 of my under the radar places to visit in Paris…

Belleville

Once an independent municipality that was annexed by the city of Paris in 1860, the neighbourhood of Belleville straddles four uncommon arrondissements and right through history has been a refuge for those fleeing rivalry in their own lands. Due to this colourful backdrop, Belleville has a multi-ethnic vibe with elements of China, Greece, Germany and parts of Africa amalgamation collectively with the traditional Parisian foundations. Here you will find the chicest of the sharp childish things dining out in seats like Septime or Clamato pro a part of the cost in the more established parts of the city. What better way to embody the Parisian vibe, than to grab a schooner of wine at one of the many bars and watch the schedule of this artsy neighbourhood unfold in front of your eyes. If you’re looking for a further splendid constituency furthermore check out Le Marais, which has been lone of the hippest parts of the city, here’s a handbook to nouvelle cuisine in this part of the city.

Passages of Paris

Located in the 2nd arrondissement, these beautiful inside shopping arcades began being built right through the 18th and 19th century and are of stunning architectural prowess. They were, I suppose, the first shopping malls with massive glass-domed ceilings and breath-taking architrave, they allowable the citizens of Paris to take shelter from the rain, waste an afternoon sipping coffee in concord or indeed to waste a secluded hour with a lover- everything in Paris has a romantic connotation! The generally beautiful of these passages couverts is Galerie Vivienne complete with ochre paintwork, detailed mosaics and a traditional tearoom. Even all through unavailable era it has an air of calm down and tranquillity around it with its fashionable boutiques, somnambulant tearooms and of way venerable wine vault and romantic upstairs dining opportunity.

Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte

For a beautiful time tumble from Paris a splendid under the radar option is to experience the opulent, overdone France of Louis XVI at Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte. The chateau was purchased by Nicholas Fouquet in the 1600s and was transformed into the stunning chateau we think it over now, the initially of the so-called Louis XVI style- copious, stunning and dazzling to behold. This was not the type of family the Minister for Finance in an on the breadline France should have and he was shortly imprisoned and guillotined pro his hard work, all through the revolution. However, it is little renowned with the intention of following the imprisonment of Fouquet, Louis sent a team of artists to Vaux le Vicomte to grab the tapestries, painting and statues and prearranged them to create a akin family for him and his wife in a resemblance to Vaux le Vicomte: The Palace of Versailles.

Bar le Forum

Bar le Forum is located right in the heart of Paris (4 Boulevard Malesherbes) and boasts an impressive menu of cocktails, served in elegant , oak-panelled surroundings. The bar itself is a popular with local Parisians so you are more likely to find a Birkin not a backpack hanging on the back of a chair but this makes it even more superb. The service is excellent, there is lots of space to sit back and relax and a variety of good music. What better way to savour your surroundings than by sitting on the terrace with a Forum Cocktail (mix of gin, vermouth and Grand Marnier) enjoying Paris in the springtime or the fall.

La Closerie des Lilas

An absolute private favourite of mine and where I enjoyed a New Years Eve meal before ambling up to Le Tour Eiffel to take pleasure in the light show. Like Les Deux Magots, La Closerie des Lilas is a ex- artisan favourite, together with Hemingway, Miller, Cezanne and Picasso as patrons. These days you can take pleasure in beautiful French food at it’s best, a sizzling ambiance that’ll give you goosebumps, live piano composition and magnificent cocktails, of course the company is skilled too. If it’s good enough for Hemingway….

Musée de la Curiosité et de la Magie

Located in the Marais constituency, this is a unique attraction for both adults and children alike. While the crowds are at Musée D’Orsay or the Pompidou Centre, you can take pleasure in an afternoon in the mileau of interactive exhibits and appealing key memorabilia- even approximately from the great Harry Houdini. While Paris might be renowned more often as the city of love, it is furthermore the city of key which, is furthermore a universal language and the day after day key shows at the museum prove that you can take pleasure in the delight of the magic show without speaking a word of French- and you can purchase magic tricks to bring home and amaze your friends!

Les Tuileries

Tuileries was originally the locate of a fine palace before it was burned by the Paris Commune and demolished in 1883. It is now an open complicated park and gardens which, meticulously follows the stylishness laid made known by the royal landscaper André le Notre in 1664. There are a digit of shaded spots perfect for picnicking, shiny pools for photo opportunities and the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume is located in the northwest corner of the gardens and is devoted to the spectacle of present and postmodern art and photography.

Mouffetard

Hemmingway described it as a “wonderful, narrow, crowded promote street” and like most things, Hemmingway was on the button with his class of Mouffetard. Les Marchés are as dear to French hearts as skilled cheese, wine and coffee. Located in the fifth arrondissement, Rue le Mouffetard is a real smorgasbord of scale, ranging from: Cheeses, to pastries to trendy boutiques and bohemian coffee haunts. Aside from all of the scale of fare, there is on street entertainment and live composition which, gives the total area an ambiance of conviviality and joie de vivre!

Promenade Plantée

This unique plant-lined pathway stretches over 4 kilometres from Place de la Bastille to Bois de Vincennes over abandoned railway shape. Designed in 1988 and opened in 1993, this is surely the generally unique and first way to explore the area en route to or from the historical Bastille. Your route will be dotted with appealing pieces of street art, animated plants and colourful blooms. This is more standard with locals than tourists so you are more likely to have a crowd-free view of the city.

The Seine Banks

Oh Paris, the city everywhere single the waterway is sane. Despite being one of Europe’s most famous, most wrote about and most sung about rivers, it is also the only officially listed UNESCO locate in Paris and is often over and done in this area as a tourist attraction. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting on the banks of the Seine with a sneaky box of macaroons from the famous Ladurée and watch the city slip earlier period. From your resting top on the banks you will be afforded a unique check over of the city. It is often forgotten that the most valuable thing to experience in Paris is to sit and watch the planet go by not rush from attraction to attraction.

La Palette

It is a truth universally acknowledged that Paris is renowned for it’s café society, the heart of which is embedded into the culture of Saint Germain. Enter (Entre) La Palette, opened in 1905 and frequented by the sharp and beautiful of the past Jazz era and now boasts a aid of art students from École des Beaux-Arts as well as actors like Harrison Ford, possibly because La Palette offers the exact balance of Parisian stylishness and French nonchalance. Not enough has altered in La Palette since 1905 and the wooden bar is ordinarily crowded with community customers sampling the many wines and liqueurs on offer. Definitely not a tourist trap- and beyond doubt worth a visit.

Musée Fragonard

This one of the few entirely emancipated museums in the city and is located in a beautiful old Napoleon III townhouse. Inside the ornate place to stay you’ll discover displays showcasing the history of perfumery since ancient times as well as in depth explanations about the production of perfume. The perfume organ displays the many uncommon ingredients that perfumeries aid to produce a fragrance. You will exit the building through Fragonard boutique everywhere you can sample the perfumes on display- although there is no sales pressure, you are welcomed to hold a bottle from the spectacle counter. And I urge it- could you repeat that? Better way to remember your tumble, than to bottle it?

When visiting Paris it is valuable to remember that it is more than solely Le Tour Eiffel, Louvre and L’Arc de Triomphe (if you’re wondering which area to stay in to suit you preeminent, this handbook will produce you a skilled overview). Don’t dissipate your calculate in this amazing city permanent in queues, go off the beaten track and lose physically. Who knows could you repeat that? You might find?

The Declining Standard of English in Rural Bangladesh - Sankar Das

Principal Ebrahim Khan in his monumental work ‘Anecdotes from Islam’ quoting a few lines from Syed Amir Ali said that the modern Europe was still working with the legacy, the Arabs left behind. And similarly the people of the sub-continent are working with legacy, the Britishers left behind.

British rule in the Indian Sub-continent undoubtedly revolutionized the course of its history. Moreover Europe with its excellence in every hranch of inquiry has been enjoying predominance over other countries of the world. Colonial rule was peripheral but its intellectual predominance is global.

With the defeat of Nawab Serajuddowllah in the battle of Plassey in 1757 India virtually passed into British rule. British culture, British education, British way of life how much were potential in the first half of the 19th century can easily be manifest from the life and activity of Michael Modhusudan Datta, one of the leaders of Young Bengal. During the Muslim rule in the India Persian was the state language of the land. In 1836 English replaced Persian. Though English Language was once only the colonial legacy, but today its rise as an international language is exerting multidimensional influence upon us.

English has already crossed its national boundary and as a language of science and technology its grip is becoming stronger and stronger day by day. Recent statistics points to the fact that about 350 million people speak English as a first language and another 300 million people use it as a second language. 60 countries of the world use it as official and semiofficial language. A large number of international organizations including International Olympic Committee hold meetings in English. It’s important to take note of the fact that 80% of all the information in the world’s computers is in English. So a lot of people connected with fast-moving wheel of modern technology need to speak and write a standard form of English. In most of the job advertisements a good working knowledge of English is asked for.

English has no enmity with Bangla. Most of the modern architects of Bengali language and literature excelled both in Bengali and English. During the 19th and 20th centuries. Bengali reached such a height under the colonial rule that seems to me amazing. Even during Muslim rule our literary masterminds excelled in Persian and Arabic. Even during British rule Raja Ram Mohon Ray wrote some books in Arabic and Persian. Dr. Mohammad Shahidullah did honours in Sanskriti. Girish Chandra Chandra Sen excelled in Arabic. And he translated the Holy Quran into Bengali. So studying English is in no way inimical to Bangla. All are the excuses found by the kingpins of the evil brain. They have no interest either in English or Bengali.

Language is a vehicle for communication. Minus communication language is dysfunctional. Language combines sound with sight. Communicative competence lies with doing things with a language. A learner should not feel worried about it. He should not be fastidious. The dearth of efficient English teachers is very much perceptible. The teachers like late Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan BA Distinction (English) and late Mokbul Hussain in the context of Bhuapur High School even did not come up to fill in the gap. Perhaps it will not sound irrelevant if I say that 4 students during British Period and Pakistan Period stood first in the S.S.C equivalent examination under Calcutta University and Dhaka Board from a village school like Sontosh Jhannavi High School in Tangail. Among the four illustrious students, the people of Tangail mostly know the name of Justice M.C. Ghosh I.C.S. Principal Ebrahim Khan with his rural background did his M.A. in English from Calcutta University in 1918.

Any educational institution first needs a set of good teachers. Moreover a good syllabus properly designed is of great importance. To master any language is a difficult thing. Our English syllabus cannot produce a Bangladeshi Shakespeare. At best it can impart to him that amount of knowledge, which can help him understand Shakespeare. One now requires having a good working knowledge of English to seek good jobs nationally or internationally. Where the overseas jobs are concerned, a good command of English is greatly needed. Its very much puzzling that most of the learners after 12 years’ toil can neither speak nor write English. Time is up to find an answer to this debacle.

Present English syllabi starting from class 1 to 12 class are well designed and have the potentials to cope with the prevailing situation. But the problem does not lie with the conception but with the execution.
Reasons:

A lot of reasons working behind the decline in the standard of English teaching in rural Bangladesh.
            a) Expertise in Teaching English is awe fully wanting in the countryside.
 b) With the independence in 1971, the general trend among the affluent in the rural areas is to seek settlement in the towns and that has consequently created a void.
c) The lack of uniform system has also created various standards affecting the general standard.
            d) More up-to-date, more scientific, more pragmatic syllabus is needed.
Remedies:
Training of the teachers is not sufficient enough to cope with the changing tendencies of the modern world. Monitoring is needed for its successful follow-up. A trained teacher leaves behind his training at the training center and comes back with a blank heart. So no qualitative change is perceptible.

A language learner should aim at four skills:
            a) Fist a learner should learn how to speak English in different situations. Primary level is the foundation laying level. And from there speaking skill should be prioritized. Experts should occasionally supervise the on-going teaching process. The total teaching process should be inter-active. As the ‘Eloquent speaker and mute listener’ pros   is not at all productive in the fitness of things, interactive process should always be encouraged. A mentor accompanied by a teacher in a class can help make class lively and vibrant. A recent Article published in The Daily Star has shed light on this matter. This thing may also be taken in to account.
            b) During our school days reading from the text was compulsory in the classes. We should find out the best from the past.
            c) English papers of different categories should be a compulsory reading for the students.
            d) Viva-voice should be help on speaking and reading skill. Effective test should be made to judge the working knowledge of a student so far achieved.
            e) It is true that a sound knowledge in one’s mother language can help one profusely to learn a foreign language. We can recall Goethe while he said ‘We don’t know one language unless we know the two.’
